Research Plan:

The research strategy of the Medical Biophysics Department stems from the general research strategy of the Medical Research Institute with strong programs in:

- Ultrastructural studies using Transmission Electron Microscopy for differential diagnosis of different pathologies.

- Iontophroresis technique for transdermal drug delivery using electrical field.

-Electrochemotherapy for enhancing therapeutic and reducing side effects of drugs using the electrical field.

- Nanomedicine for the preparation and characterization of different nanoparticles and nanocomposites and their medical and environmental application.

- Dielectrophoresis technique for the separation and differentiation of cell lines associated with different types of cancer.

- Laser for photodynamic therapy.

- Ultrasound for sonodynamic therapy.

- Determining and screening of body-composition and bone health status associated with differentpathologies (CKD, renal failure, Obesity, Type II Diabetes, Osteoporosis, Hypertension, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, HCV, etc.) using the Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) and Tetrapolar Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (BIA).

- Identification, monitoring and diagnosis of sever and chronic heath conditions and pathologies (Lukemia, Breast Cancer, Type II Diabetes, Chronic Rhinosinusities, etc.) and industrial pollutants using Electronic Nose (E-Nose) technology.
