The department is part of the Medical Research Institute, University of Alexandria.
The major responsibilities of the department are to:

• Conduct research that serves to advance the fundamental knowledge of drug actions and effects on biological systems.
• Provide information about existing and emerging drugs.
• Educate and train postgraduate and professional students in the discipline of Pharmacology.
