First: Community Services:

 

  • Department wards: (Internal Medicine Wards, Liver Diseases Ward, Heart Diseases Ward, Kidney Diseases Ward) for admitting internal medicine cases and treating them for free or at economic prices, in addition to daily and weekly detailed rounds on admitted cases to discuss their treatment and progress.
  • Outpatient clinic of Internal Medicine: which includes examination room and a procedure room for simple interventions that can be performed in the outpatient clinic instead of admitting the patient to the hospital, such as abdominal and chest paracentesis, as well as transfusion of blood and its derivatives.
  • Cardiology Unit: Diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular cases in need of close monitoring, echocardiography, ECG, diagnostic and therapeutic cardiac catheterization, coronary stenting, pacemaker implantation, and balloon dilation of mitral and pulmonary valves through cardiac catheter.
  • Nephrology Unit: Performing high-efficiency hemodialysis sessions, plasmapheresis sessions, and cooperating with the Pathology and Immunology departments in obtaining and examining kidney biopsy. Additionally, performing ultrasound examinations for department cases is also done.
  • Hepatology and Gastroenterology Unit: Performing upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, including diagnosis, variceal ligation and injection, esophageal dilation, and placement of gastrostomy tubes. Lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, including laser cauterization, polyp removal, and biopsy. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), including diagnosis and treatment of bile duct obstruction, removal of bile duct stones, and stent placement. Additionally, performing ultrasound examinations for department cases is also done.

 

Second: Teaching and Training Activities

 

  • Teaching various courses to postgraduate students registered in the Medical Research Institute and the High Institute of Public Health, in addition to clinical training of students from Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University.
  • The Hepatology and Gastroenterology Unit organizes regular training courses for doctors on the use of gastrointestinal endoscopy and ultrasound examination.
  • The Cardiology Unit organizes regular training courses for doctors on echocardiography
  • Weekly scientific meeting of the department, attended by all faculty members and assistants, allowing for scientific discussion and detailed analysis of difficult cases and finding solutions to problems that hinder their diagnosis and treatment.
