• Performing routine microbiological tests for various clinical samples collected from different body sites from inpatients and outpatients:
    • Staining and Culture and sensitivity
    • Serological tests for diagnosis of infectious diseases: Widal test, ELISA (HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HIV, H.pylori)
    • Routine screening for hemodialysis patients and blood donors
    • Molecular diagnosis of infectious diseases: Real time PCR for quantitation of HCV, HBV, TB, CMV......etc
  • Control of health care associated infection: knowledge about new alert microbes, unusual resistance, interpretation of microbiologic results, , infection surveillance and education of health care and assist in the design of antibiotic formulary
  • Participation with other departments in MRI and with Faculty Of Medicine and Faculty Of Pharmacy in scientific research related to the field of interest

Towards physicians: The laboratory of the Medical Research Institute should have a distinct way in diagnosing diseases and providing support to doctors in the necessary cases.
